Democratic US politician: Police arrest suspected Minnesota attacker, media report

Police in the US have arrested a suspect in the attacks on Democratic politicians in Minnesota over the weekend, according to reports by the AP news agency and the New York Times , citing officials.

The suspect allegedly shot former Democratic Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband on Saturday morning. Both were killed in the attack.

Representative John Hoffman, also a Democrat, and his wife Yvette were similarly attacked in their home 15 kilometers away, but survived. Governor Tim Walz described the attacks as politically motivated.

Shortly after the attacks, security authorities identified 57-year-old Vance Luther B. as the suspected perpetrator . He is said to have planned attacks on a total of 70 US Democratic politicians.
