The German record champions want to sign the VfB striker. But Stuttgart is now sending different signals.
The transfer poker game surrounding Nick Woltemade is apparently entering the next round: Now, sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth of Woltemade's club VfB Stuttgart has commented on FC Bayern Munich's ongoing pursuit of the German international. And he made his position clear: "No," Wohlgemuth answered a reporter's question about whether he expects Woltemade to leave this summer.
What's more, the German record champions have indeed expressed "their interest," the 46-year-old continued at the cup winners' training start in front of around 1,000 fans. But: "We made a long-term agreement with Nick almost a year and a half ago, and it's still valid," Wohlgemuth added. "And that's why we assume that Nick will continue to play football with us next season and be able to demonstrate his qualities."
According to media reports, the 23-year-old has already reached an agreement with Bayern. The point of negotiation between the Munich and Stuttgart club bosses is reportedly the transfer fee. There has been lively speculation about offers or demands of 30, 50, 80, or even 100 million euros.
VfB sporting director Wohlgemuth declined to answer the question of whether Bayern Munich had made an offer. "If talks take place at all, that's a matter between the two clubs," he said.
The fact that Bayern's need for an attacking player has increased due to Jamal Musiala 's serious injury won't make Woltemade's position any easier. Understandably, media interest is high during the summer lull, Wohlgemuth said. "Some statements do make a bit more noise than in other phases of the season," he said, "but that doesn't change the facts."
The striker joined VfB Stuttgart from Werder Bremen on a free transfer last summer. His contract in Stuttgart runs until the end of June 2028. After a difficult first few months in the state, Woltemade emerged as a key player under coach Sebastian Hoeneß in the second half of the season.
