Frankfurt: Fatal accident on B456 near Bad Homburg

An 83-year-old man died in a serious traffic accident on the B456 near Bad Homburg on Monday evening. The cause of the accident is still unclear.

A serious traffic accident on the B 456 near Bad Homburg vd Höhe ended fatally for an 83-year-old driver on Monday evening. According to the police, the accident occurred at around 7:07 p.m. on the Saalburgchaussee.

The 83-year-old Skoda driver was driving towards Bad Homburg when he crossed into the oncoming lane between the entrance to Saalburg and the so-called Horex curve. On a straight stretch of road, he collided head-on with an oncoming Audi driven by a 54-year-old.

The person who caused the accident suffered serious injuries in the collision. Despite prompt medical treatment, he died a short time later in hospital. The 54-year-old Audi driver escaped with minor injuries and was also taken to hospital.

The force of the impact was enormous. According to police estimates, the material damage caused amounts to around 100,000 euros. The federal highway had to be completely closed for around two hours. During this time, the injured were cared for, the accident was recorded, the damaged vehicles were towed away and the road was cleaned.

The exact cause of the accident is currently unclear. The investigation is ongoing.
