The Portuguese striker of the English champions dies in a traffic accident in Spain.

Footballer Diogo Jota has died. The Liverpool FC striker and his brother André died in a traffic accident in the Spanish province of Zamora on Thursday morning. Several media outlets from Spain and England initially reported the death of the 28-year-old Portuguese international, citing Spanish police. The Portuguese Football Federation confirmed the death. According to reports, the car left the road and caught fire. Jota had recently married and leaves behind three children.

Former team manager Jürgen Klopp brought Jota to Liverpool in 2020, with the Reds paying around €45 million for the attacker. Jota won the English league title with Liverpool last season, and in 2022, he and Klopp lifted the FA Cup. He recently won the Nations League with the national team in Munich, coming on as a substitute in the 2-1 semifinal against Germany.
