A senior officer confirmed that many soldiers are distancing themselves from the United States because Trump's stance on Russia and Ukraine is perceived as a betrayal.

"We thought the Americans were our comrades, even though they had no soldiers stationed here," he said, according to the Independent. "Everyone in the army is wondering how Ukraine could survive without American weapons."

A military doctor also expressed his disappointment: "We know that Trump has no affection for Ukraine. Trump loves himself. His actions are not for America's benefit, but only for him."

However, many still hope that Trump's behavior could be tactical: "Perhaps he is trying to gain Putin's trust before presenting a plan that is good for Ukraine." According to the Independent, there is a mixture of resignation and hope among the soldiers regarding US policy.

The Ukrainian government, meanwhile, is focusing on developing its own weapons, including drones and ballistic missiles. Politicians stress that Ukraine will not accept a peace forced by Trump that does not take into account the country's long-term security. "We will keep fighting," one soldier told the Independent. "We have no choice, because if we give up, we will disappear."
