We Are Social Digital Report: How intensively Germans use social media

Always in view: social media apps on your smartphone
Just a quick status check: It seems like everyone reaches for their smartphone as soon as they have a short break. But how often and for how long do Germans actually use Instagram, TikTok & Co? The new Digital Report 2025 from the digital agency We Are Social provides answers.
On average, every German spends 1 hour and 41 minutes on and with social media per day. This means that German users are significantly below the global average of 2 hours and 21 minutes per day. Almost a third of the total internet usage of around five and a half hours per day in Germany is spent on social media.
However, when it comes to usage time, TikTok takes the cake and is by far in second place with almost 35 hours per month - even though usage time has actually decreased compared to the previous year (37.4 hours). On average, the app is opened around 10 times a day, only WhatsApp is accessed more frequently at 18 times a day. YouTube is in second place with a monthly usage time of around 15 hours, followed by Facebook (11 hours), Instagram with around 10 hours and 20 minutes and WhatsApp with around eight and a half hours.
