Patrick Vollrath: German director to shoot submarine thriller with Chris Hemsworth

Los Angeles. Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth (41, "Thor") will appear in front of the camera for German director Patrick Vollrath ("7500"). The Australian-born actor will take on the lead role in Amazon MGM Studios' planned submarine thriller "Subversion," according to US industry magazines. Hemsworth will play a naval captain forced by criminals to pilot a submarine carrying illegal cargo through international waters. Filming is scheduled to begin in Australia this fall.
Hemsworth was most recently seen alongside Anya Taylor-Joy in the action blockbuster "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" (2024). The "Thor" actor will also return in the Marvel production "Avengers: Doomsday," scheduled for 2026.
Vollrath (40) made his feature film debut in 2019 with the thriller "7500." The psychologically sophisticated film centers on a terrorist attack during a scheduled flight. The lead role of the pilot attempting to save the lives of passengers was played by American Joseph Gordon-Levitt ("Inception," "Snowden").
Vollrath won a Student Academy Award in 2015 for his short film "Alles wird Okay." The director from Bad Grund in the Harz Mountains was also nominated for an Oscar in the short film category the following year. Vollrath studied at the Vienna Film Academy under Oscar winner Michael Haneke ("Love").
