Elections in Poland: Great interest in voting in Germany

Berlin – The decisive second round of the presidential election in Poland is mobilizing an unusually large number of eligible voters in Germany to cast their ballots. For Sunday's vote, 115,000 citizens with Polish citizenship in Germany have registered to cast their ballots in one of the 54 polling stations across the country, the Polish Embassy in Berlin reported to the Funke media group (Sunday editions). This is significantly higher than in the previous presidential election in 2020, when around 70,000 people registered to vote in Germany. Polls in Poland predict a very close race between the pro-European, liberal-conservative Rafal Trzaskowski and the right-wing conservative Eurosceptic Karol Nawrocki. According to the latest polls, Trzaskowski has a razor-thin lead of 47.4 percent over Nawrocki's 46.3 percent. There is no option for postal voting for Polish citizens abroad. Citizens with a Polish passport or dual passport who wished to vote abroad had to register in advance—via a website or in person at one of the Polish consulates. According to the embassy, ​​the highest number of registrations occurred in the Cologne consular district, which is responsible for North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland—48,000 people registered here alone, while over 19,000 registered in the Berlin consular district.
