Is the tank top the most sensual top of our time?

Now that the boundaries between fashion, sportswear, and underwear are blurred, the tank top has established itself as the little sister of the classic T-shirt—even in high fashion, after Prada's ribbed version with logo appliqué became an it-piece three years ago. Brands like Loewe and Miu Miu followed suit, creating a kind of minimalist logo hype on their tank tops. This season, the sleeveless shirt is appearing on the runway in a variety of different versions—knitted at Zimmermann, classic at Ralph Lauren, or avant-garde as part of a dress at Melitta Baumeister—proving that even its non-ribbed versions benefit from the vibe cultivated over decades.

It doesn't aim to appear elegant, unusual, or seductive—and somehow that makes it all the more so. A casual sensuality, as if shaken from the (nonexistent) sleeve. By the way, I prefer to wear the tank top with a blazer or just leave the top on its own, because the days when you could only go sleeveless on special occasions are thankfully long gone.
