Julia Roberts Mourns Death of Beloved Dog Myrtle After 19 Years

Julia Roberts has said goodbye to a woman’s best friend.
In a touching tribute, the Oscar winner announced the sad news that her beloved dog Myrtle has died after spending 19 years together.
“Our Myrtle,” Julia wrote in a May 16 Instagram post alongside a picture of her furry friend sitting on a blanket outside. “A Legend. 2006-2025.”
The Pretty Woman star’s husband Danny Moder—with whom she shares twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, 20, and Henry, 17, as well as another pup named Lou—also mourned the passing of Myrtle with a lighthearted message.
“The definition of Fierce Loyalty, even if she bit the pizza man once,” he captioned his Instagram post, which included a close-up shot of the dog’s face. “RIP Mytlle…aka Myrtle Von Mertzenberger.”
Prior to her passing, Myrtle had made quite a few appearances on Danny’s social media. Indeed, the cinematographer once gushed about the joy both their dogs always exude.
“Everyday is Christmas for these guys,” Danny wrote in a December 2016 Instagram post alongside a pic of the canine crew in the snow. “Merry Christmas from Arroyo Seco.”
Of course, the couple’s kids were close with the pup as well. Danny—who married Julia in 2002—previously shared a sweet snap of Myrtle hanging out with Phinnaeus and Henry as they rode bicycles, writing in the Instagram caption, “The road to Easter.”
And their lives are certainly impacted by their love for their furry friends. In fact, Julia lent her hand, and social media real estate, last year to an organization called Frankie Lola and Friends, which the Leave the World Behind actress described in as “an incredible dog rescue organization.”
“Lisa and her team work like crazy to find loving homes for pups in desperate need!” Julia wrote in the December Instagram post and attached a picture of herself smiling while hugging a grinning chocolate lab. “What could be better than that!”
