After the traffic light disputes: Steinmeier wants a different style of politics

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier expects the new federal government to present a better image than the recent traffic light coalition. The style among the parties must be different, Steinmeier told MDR aktuell. The Federal President warned against "staging every dispute publicly." The focus must be on solving problems and finding compromises. People expect answers, for example, on energy prices. What is needed are initiatives that lead to improvements in living and economic conditions. Steinmeier expressed optimism that diminished trust in democratic institutions can be regained. "My plea is: Let us invest even more time and more presence to reconnect with people where dialogue has been lost." With regard to election results, he spoke out against equating the AfD and eastern Germany. "It is not a specifically eastern German phenomenon that people join other parties, even out of protest." Steinmeier relocated his office to Saxony for three days this week as part of his "Local Time Germany" series of visits. In Delitzsch he learned about local problems and the establishment of the Federal Research Center for the Chemical Industry.
