Detmold - In the early morning hours of May 11, 2025, the full-time staff of the Detmold fire department were called to an unusual operation.

FW-DT: Orange ball causes nighttime fire service operation. At 3:58 a.m., the alarm was received with the initial report that the familiar "orange ball" was located at the intersection of Braker Straße and Barntruper Straße.
Emergency personnel were able to quickly clarify the situation on scene: The ball, weighing approximately 2 tons and measuring approximately 4.5 meters in diameter, was not on the roadway as reported, but was lying in a bush at the edge of Nordring. The fire department secured the scene, assisted the police in hazard control, and also secured a damaged streetlight.
After the security measures were completed, the scene was handed over to the police, who began investigating the cause of the incident that night. The Detmold Fire Department was able to conclude the operation after approximately 30 minutes.
