Federal Student Conference: For compulsory visits to memorial sites

According to the Federal Student Conference, visits to memorial sites should become mandatory. This is not a "nice project idea," but rather a "non-negotiable educational goal," the organization's Secretary General, Quentin Gärtner, told the portal web.de on Monday. This is particularly true in light of a rise in right-wing extremist crimes. Federal Education Minister Karin Prien (CDU) was recently criticized by a majority of federal states for the same proposal. However, Gärtner warned that education about right-wing extremism should not begin only after the first threats have been made: "It must be an integral part of teaching, from the very beginning." The Federal Student Conference claims to represent 7.5 million students from 15 federal states.
