Humanitarian Aid Gaza | Candy Bombers for Gaza
When people are threatened with starvation, Germany knows what to do: Air Force "candy bombers" are supposed to save the people in the Gaza Strip from starvation, just as the population of West Berlin was once supplied with canned food by the USA during the Berlin Blockade. With an "airlift," Chancellor Friedrich Merz embarks on a rescue mission: "We are here, we are in the region, we are helping," he patted himself on the back. Sanctions against the perpetrators of the famine, however, are not even a hint from the German government. Instead, the Israeli war crime of the blockade is being remedied by dropping bread and butter. Simply to feel better, to have at least done something.
Aid organizations that understand their work reject such actions because they can be expensive, inefficient, and even dangerous , especially since trucks loaded with aid are waiting at the border. Even the European Union is bolder, threatening to cut funding to the oh-so-innovative Israeli startups in Tel Aviv, even though they provide support for the arms industry .
But even that is just make-up for a situation that requires a revolutionary reversal in relations with the State of Israel. Germany doesn't dare do that , even though one occasionally sees worry lines on Merzen's face when he thinks of Netanyahu. In Berlin, they are taking their time , measuring out their measures, and expressing their concern about Israel through "communication channels," while the people in the Gaza Strip are slowly but surely starving to death. Canadian doctor Tarek Loubani commented: "All the children who are malnourished now will die."
