Maximilian Krah: Bundestag lifts immunity of AfD MP

The Bundestag has lifted the immunity of AfD politician Maximilian Krah and authorized court-ordered searches and seizures. The plenary session approved a corresponding motion.
Bundestag President Julia Klöckner (CDU) interrupted a debate on a nursing care law for the last-minute vote. Klöckner did not name the person affected, but it is included in the Bundestag document on the matter.

Immediately afterward, Krah's Bundestag offices were searched. Krah confirmed the raid to the RND, saying he was not present. He could not say whether the officers had confiscated anything. He assumed his private residence would also be searched.
The Dresden Public Prosecutor's Office has been investigating Krah since May on charges of taking bribes as a member of the European Parliament and money laundering in connection with Chinese payments. The investigating authority sees evidence that "based on criminalistic experience, it appears possible" that a prosecutable crime has been committed. The presumption of innocence continues to apply.
On Platform X, Krah called the allegations absurd, fabricated, and purely politically motivated. He claimed that the search of his offices was an attempt to intimidate him.
In addition, preliminary investigations are pending against the AfD politician by the Dresden Public Prosecutor General's Office in connection with alleged Russian payments.
The allegations reportedly relate to his previous work as a Member of the European Parliament. The authority now wants to investigate whether "there are sufficient grounds to bring charges or whether the proceedings should be discontinued."
