Mönchengladbach Eicken, May 31, 2025, 2:03 a.m., Regentenstraße - On the night of May 31, 2025 at 2:03 a.m., a fire broke out on the ground floor of an apartment building on Regentenstraße.

FW-MG: Fire in an apartment building, firefighters rescued several cats
When the fire brigade arrived, the apartment was already fully ablaze, but four residents from the floors above had managed to escape to the outside via the stairwell.
Since it was initially unclear whether other people were in the building, the fire department immediately initiated comprehensive rescue and firefighting measures. Three crews, wearing self-contained breathing apparatus, checked all apartments and extinguished the fire. No other people were found.
However, seven cats were rescued from suffocation in one of the apartments.
As a precaution, the neighboring buildings were also evacuated. However, after extensive checks, the residents of the neighboring buildings were able to return to their homes promptly.
The apartment where the fire occurred is currently uninhabitable due to the severe smoke and fire damage. The resident has been placed in emergency accommodation by the Mönchengladbach Social Welfare Office.
No one was injured during the operation.
The fire brigade from Fire and Rescue Station I (Neuwerk), a rescue fire engine from Fire and Rescue Station II (Holt), the respiratory protection vehicle and the site hygiene vehicle from the Technology and Logistics Center (Holt), the city center unit of the volunteer fire department, an ambulance and an emergency doctor from the city of Mönchengladbach, as well as the command service of the professional fire department were on duty.
