Producer prices for industrial products in Germany were 0.9 percent lower in April 2025 than in the same month last year.

Producer prices fall in April
As the Federal Office further announced, producer prices fell by 0.6 percent in April compared to the previous month. The main reason for the year-on-year decline in producer prices in April was lower energy prices. Consumer and durable goods, capital goods, and intermediate goods, however, were more expensive than in the same month last year. Excluding energy, producer prices rose by 1.5 percent year-on-year and by 0.4 percent compared to March. Energy was 6.4 percent cheaper in April 2025 than in the same month of the previous year. Compared to March, energy prices fell by 2.9 percent. The largest impact on the year-on-year rate of change for energy was the price decline in natural gas in distribution. Across all consumer groups, natural gas prices fell by 6.2 percent compared to April 2024 (-3.6 percent compared to March). Electricity cost 7.5 percent less than in the same month last year (-3.3 percent compared to March 2025), and district heating cost 0.1 percent less than in April 2024 (-0.2 percent compared to March). Prices for mineral oil products fell by 10.4 percent compared to April 2024 (-3.3 percent compared to March). Light heating oil cost 16.5 percent less than a year earlier (-3.1 percent compared to March). Fuel prices were 9.5 percent cheaper (-1.2 percent compared to March). Prices for capital goods were 2.0 percent higher in April 2025 than in the same month last year (+0.3 percent compared to March), the Federal Office added. Machinery cost 1.9 percent more than in April 2024 (+0.1 percent compared to March). Prices for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts rose 1.4 percent compared to April 2024 (+0.3 percent compared to March). Consumer goods were 3.2 percent more expensive than in April 2024 (+0.9 percent compared to March). Food cost 3.8 percent more than in April 2024 (+1.3 percent compared to March). Coffee was significantly more expensive compared to the same month last year, rising by 43.3 percent (+8.1 percent compared to March). Beef was also more expensive than in the same month last year, rising by 30.4 percent (+3.4 percent compared to March), butter by 24.6 percent (-1.2 percent compared to March), and vegetable oils by 15.8 percent (+0.2 percent compared to March). Sugar, on the other hand, was cheaper than in the same month last year, rising by 38.0 percent (-0.2 percent compared to March) and pork by 7.7 percent, although pork prices rose by 9.0 percent compared to March. Consumer durables were 1.4 percent more expensive in April than a year earlier (+0.2 percent compared to March). Prices for intermediate goods were 0.3 percent higher in April 2025 than a year earlier and 0.2 percent higher than in the previous month, according to the Federal Office. Price increases compared to April 2024 included paper, cardboard, and products made from them, with prices rising by 3.2 percent (+0.6 percent compared to March). Animal feed was 4.7 percent more expensive than a year earlier (0.0 percent compared to March). Wood and wood and cork products cost 4.6 percent more than in April 2024 (+1.1 percent compared to March). Softwood lumber was 13.1 percent more expensive than in April 2024 (+3.1 percent compared to March). Hardwood lumber, in contrast, was 2.6 percent cheaper than in the same month last year (-0.1 percent compared to March). Metal prices fell by 0.4 percent year-on-year (-0.2 percent compared to March). Pig iron, steel, and ferroalloys were 5.5 percent cheaper than in April 2024 (+1.2 percent compared to March). Copper and semi-finished products cost 1.5 percent less than in April 2024, and prices fell 2.6 percent compared to March. Reinforcing steel prices were 1.3 percent higher year-on-year (+3.3 percent compared to March). Glass and glassware were 2.2 percent cheaper than in the same month last year (+0.9 percent compared to March), hollow glass was 6.1 percent cheaper than in April 2024 (-0.3 percent compared to March), and refined and processed flat glass was 1.5 percent cheaper than in April 2024 (+0.7 percent compared to March). Basic chemicals were 1.2 percent cheaper than in the same month last year (-0.6 percent compared to March).
