Situation in the Gaza Strip: EU questions agreement with Israel

In light of the situation in the Gaza Strip , the EU is questioning its partnership agreement with Israel . According to EU foreign ministers' chief diplomat Kaja Kallas, a "strong majority" at a meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels spoke out in favor of reviewing whether Israel continues to adhere to the basic principles of the so-called Association Agreement. These include that relations between the parties are based on respect for human rights. According to diplomats, Germany was among the countries at the ministerial meeting that spoke out against a review. The German government argues, among other things, that it does not want to jeopardize existing channels of communication with Israel. Israel has been accused of violating this basic principle by sources including the Netherlands. The reason for this is that since the beginning of March, the country has barely allowed any aid deliveries into the Gaza Strip, where around two million Palestinians live. Israel justifies its actions by claiming that the Islamist Hamas group benefits from the aid deliveries.
