Steinmeier and Merz congratulate: 75 years of the Central Council of Jews

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier congratulated the Central Council of Jews in Germany on its 75th anniversary. In the decades since its founding on July 19, 1950, the Central Council has "become one of the most important political and social voices in our country and a pillar of democracy ," Steinmeier emphasized. "Only when Jews can feel completely safe in Germany will this country be completely at peace with itself," Steinmeier said. Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz also emphasized the importance of the Central Council: "The Central Council reminds us of what should be self-evident: Germany must be a safe haven for Jews. Let us ensure this," Merz said. The Central Council of Jews was founded on July 19, 1950, in Frankfurt am Main. The anniversary will be celebrated with an anniversary reception in Berlin in September.
