The Australian died on Wednesday in Clearwater, Florida, after battling cancer, according to industry publications "Deadline" and "Hollywood Reporter," citing his wife, Kelly McMahon, and his manager, David Schiff. The actor was 56 years old.

In Germany, he was best known for the series "Nip/Tuck," about the adventures of two plastic surgeons, which aired on ProSieben from 2004. McMahon played the womanizer Christian Troy. He was nominated for a Golden Globe for this role.

"He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest desire was to bring joy to as many people as possible," Kelly McMahon told Deadline.
