Number of bankruptcies continues to rise sharply
In the first half of 2024, receivables amounted to approximately €32.4 billion. This decline in receivables, coupled with a simultaneous increase in the number of corporate insolvencies, is due to the fact that more economically significant companies filed for insolvency in the first half of 2024 than in the first half of 2025, according to the Federal Office. In June of this year, 1,957 corporate insolvencies were filed, an 18.4 percent increase compared to June 2024. Based on the number of 10,000 companies, there were a total of 34.6 corporate insolvencies in Germany in the first half of 2025. The transport and warehousing sector accounted for the highest number of insolvencies per 10,000 companies, with 64.5. This was followed by the hospitality industry with 52.7 cases and the construction industry with 52.3 insolvencies per 10,000 companies. In the first half of 2025, there were 38,016 consumer bankruptcies. This represents an increase of 7.5 percent compared to the first half of 2024. In June, 6,510 consumer bankruptcies were reported, 9.9 percent more than in June 2024.
