The number of regular insolvencies filed in Germany in April 2025 rose by 3.3 percent compared to the same month last year.

Destatis: Regular insolvencies filed increased in April
In February 2024, claims amounted to around 4.1 billion euros. In February 2025, there were a total of 6.0 corporate insolvencies per 10,000 companies in Germany. The transport and warehousing sector accounted for the highest number of insolvencies per 10,000 companies, with 10.0 cases. This was followed by other economic services (e.g., temporary employment agencies) with 9.3 cases, and the hospitality industry with 9.0 insolvencies per 10,000 companies. According to Destatis, there were 6,075 consumer bankruptcies in February 2025. This represents an increase of 4.8 percent compared to February 2024. The Federal Office pointed out that applications are only included in the statistics after the first decision of the insolvency court. However, in many cases, the actual date of the insolvency application is approximately three months earlier.
