Russian forces have been attacking Ukraine with drones and missiles particularly intensively throughout the weekend. The exact extent of the latest attacks is not yet clear, but numerous explosions are reported to have occurred again.

The Russian army again attacked Ukraine overnight with large swarms of drones. Early this morning, the Ukrainian Air Force also warned on the Telegram platform of new cruise missile attacks by Russia's strategic air force. The air alert was subsequently expanded to cover the entire country.

Air defense systems were deployed in many places, and the media reported numerous explosions. In contrast to previous missile and drone attacks, there were no reports from authorities of possible casualties or damage until early morning.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian drones attacked the port city of Odessa from the Black Sea. A series of powerful explosions were heard in the eastern city of Kharkiv, regional military administrator Oleh Synyehubov reported on Telegram.

Large-scale attacks are intended to overload air defenses

Since the combat drones entered Ukrainian airspace from various directions, there was no focal point for the attacks. By flying larger groups of drones, the Russian military is attempting to overwhelm Ukrainian air defenses.

The Russian armed forces had already massively bombarded the neighboring country with rockets, cruise missiles, and hundreds of drones on the nights of Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday alone, at least twelve people were killed and nearly 80 injured.

Ukraine, for its part, repeatedly flew drones toward Moscow throughout Sunday. As a result, some airports in the Russian capital had to temporarily suspend takeoffs and landings.
