Trump criticizes his own supporters: "What's wrong with my boys?"

"What's wrong with my 'boys,' and in some cases, 'girls?'" Trump wrote on his online platform, Truth Social, on Saturday. "They're all targeting Attorney General Pam Bondi, who's doing a fantastic job!" Trump defended Bondi, who is under heavy criticism.

"We're on a team, MAGA, and I don't like what's happening," Trump added, addressing his right-wing MAGA ("Make America Great Again") camp. The US has a "perfect government" that's being talked about around the world—and "selfish people are trying to hurt it, all because of a man who never dies, Jeffrey Epstein," the US president complained.

Many Trump supporters recently expressed outrage because his administration failed to keep a promise regarding the Epstein scandal: It wanted to shed light on the scandal surrounding the US billionaire, who was found dead in his Manhattan jail cell in 2019. The investment banker was accused of abusing numerous girls and young women and supplying them to celebrities.

Trump's Attorney General Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel had fueled speculation that Epstein had a secret "client list" containing prominent names from the Democratic Party and Hollywood. Some Trump supporters even spread the conspiracy theory that Epstein had been eliminated by a "deep state" for this reason.

Last Monday, Bondi and Patel released a surprising memo: No "incriminating 'client list'" had been found—and Epstein had committed suicide in prison, as previously assumed. There was no further information in the case.

The reaction in the MAGA camp was fierce. "This is disgusting beyond measure," wrote Trump supporter, radio host, and well-known conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on the online service X. Next, the Department of Justice will claim Epstein never existed, he added sarcastically.

Right-wing influencer Laura Loomer, who is said to have a strong influence on Trump, called for the dismissal of Attorney General Bondi. The president should fire her "because she has lied to his base and is a burden on the administration," Loomer demanded on X.

Because of his previous statements about Epstein, Trump himself is also in the spotlight in the affair. In 2002, he described his then-neighbor Epstein as a "great guy" and said he "liked beautiful women just like I did"—and many of them were rather young.

Trump's name also appeared in later declassified documents related to the Epstein affair, but the incumbent president was not accused of any wrongdoing. Some in the MAGA camp now suspect that Trump himself was on the alleged "client list" and therefore wanted to cover up the matter.

On Saturday, the president addressed his supporters, visibly annoyed. "For years, it's been all about Epstein," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "Let's not waste time and energy on Jeffrey Epstein, someone nobody cares about."
