On Saturday evening, at 7:57 p.m., the Central Fire Brigade was alerted to the A1 motorway in the direction of Cologne with the alarm code "TH_1 - Traffic Accident // e-Call." A few minutes after the alarm, the code was changed to "TH_PERSON_KLEMMT - Vehicle Overturned // Person Trapped," as the control center had already received feedback from the motorway police.

When emergency services arrived, there was no evidence of an accident on the highway. For reasons still unknown, a car drove over the guardrail and down the embankment, approximately 7 meters below. The driver of the crashed vehicle was able to free himself from the car and was already receiving medical treatment from the emergency services. Firefighters secured the scene from the flow of traffic and ensured fire protection. Additional personnel alerted due to the increased traffic volume were able to abort the emergency call.

Sixteen emergency personnel with four vehicles (1-KdoW-1, 1-ELW1-1, 1-RW1-1, 1-TLF3000-1), the emergency services, and the highway police were deployed. The end of the operation was reported to the district control center at around 8:45 p.m.
