After Al-Nassr transfer fell through: Hancko moves to Atletico Madrid

After the controversy surrounding his move to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, David Hancko has finally found a new club. The central defender is moving to Atletico Madrid.

It was a very unusual decision by the Saudi Arabian team Al-Nassr, who had already agreed with Feyenoord Rotterdam and David Hancko on a move to the Saudi Professional League. Shortly before the signing, Cristiano Ronaldo's team backed out of the deal , as the Slovakian had already given notice on his apartment in the Netherlands.

Now, however, Hancko doesn't have to look for accommodation in Rotterdam again, as the 27-year-old central defender is moving to Spain to join Champions League participant Atletico Madrid . He signed a five-year contract in the Spanish capital until 2030, as the club announced in a press release.

"We will miss you"

Feyenoord can thus put an end to the transfer saga surrounding their vice-captain, reportedly pocketing around €30 million for the transfer. Hancko has been a regular starter for the Dutch club, which finished third in the Dutch league last season, for three years and even won the Eredivisie title in his first year in 2023. "We will miss you," Feyenoord announced on its social media channels.

Atletico, who have signed a second central defender after Clement Lenglet , who was already on loan to La Rojiblancos last season, are reacting to the departures of Cesar Azpilicueta and Axel Witsel , whose contracts were not renewed after the season. Furthermore, former Augsburg player Renato Veiga is said to be another player waiting in the wings for this position.
