Bayern hosts Leipzig for the opening match

German champions FC Bayern Munich will open the 63rd Bundesliga season with a home match against RB Leipzig. The German Football League (DFL) announced this one day before the release of the complete schedule.
The match will take place on August 22nd at 8:30 p.m. and will be broadcast by the pay-TV channel Sky and on free TV by Sat.1.
The complete schedule for the 2025/26 season, including matches for the Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga, will be published by the German Football League on Friday.
It's a first for Leipzig: They're playing in the opening match of the Bundesliga for the first time. Munich, who won their 34th league title last season, are participating for the 16th time since 2002. FCB's record is impressive: 13 wins and three draws so far. FC Bayern Munich beat their rivals from Saxony 5-1 at home last season.
This year's preseason will be unusually short for coach Vincent Kompany's team. Bayern are currently playing in the Club World Cup in the USA. The start of preparations for the 2025/26 season will depend on the team's performance in the rest of the tournament. However, the break won't be too long. On August 7, the Munich team will play against Tottenham in a preseason tournament. On August 16, they face the Supercup against cup winners VfB Stuttgart.
