Belinda Bencic reaches the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time

(sda) Belinda Bencic is in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon for the first time. The 28-year-old from Eastern Switzerland defeated the number 18 seeded Russian Yekaterina Alexandrova 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

At her fourth attempt, Bencic (WTA 35) finally won a round of 16 match at the grass-court classic. She is in the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time since the 2021 US Open—and for the first time as a mother. Her next opponents are Russian Mirra Andreyeva (WTA 7) or American Emma Navarro (WTA 10).
