Bochum says goodbye with victory against St. Pauli

Relegated VfL Bochum celebrated another success at the end of the Bundesliga season, winning 2-0 (1-0) against FC St. Pauli. Hamburg also had something to celebrate in the end, as their survival is now mathematically assured.
Myron Boadu scored both goals for VfL (10th minute/66th minute), but the team was unable to escape last place in the table. St. Pauli finished the season as a newly promoted team in 14th place.
Bochum's Hecking: "Performance speaks for the team""We wanted to leave with a positive feeling, which is obviously not easy after the setback we suffered last week ," said VfL coach Dieter Hecking after the game. "We would have liked to be back next season. We didn't manage that. Today's performance was okay, which speaks volumes about this team."
St. Pauli coach Alexander Blessin would have preferred a different performance, he told Sportschau. "But you just had a drop in the tension, and then you noticed that we weren't up to our game in terms of intensity. So we deserved to lose. But we've achieved so much greatness and are happy about the good season."
FC St. Pauli's relegation never in dangerA lot would have had to happen for FC St. Pauli to actually slip back into the relegation zone. 1. FC Heidenheim needed a big win in the parallel match against Werder Bremen, but lost 4-1.
Nevertheless, Hamburg were determined to leave nothing to chance and took control of the game against Bochum from the very beginning. However, the hosts weren't particularly dangerous in the early stages.
Bochum's Boadu crowns solo with goal to 1-0VfL Bochum, and more specifically striker Boadu, then demonstrated how efficient this can be. He received the ball on the edge of the penalty area, dribbled past three opponents, and then beat goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj to give Bochum a somewhat surprising lead (10').
The goal didn't change the momentum of the game. St. Pauli continued to have the majority of the ball, but struggled to create chances. In the 20th minute, Morgan Guilavogi suddenly found himself free to head the ball six meters from goal, but his header only went into the arms of Timo Horn.
St. Pauli's Afolayan fails to hit the empty netTwo minutes later, Horn almost got his revenge, passing the ball to Oladapo Afolayan in front of the penalty area. However, the striker was too surprised and fired well over the empty net (22').
There was nothing more offensively happening in the first half, as FC St. Pauli lacked both accuracy and pace, and VfL Bochum, with the lead behind them, did not have much of a desire to play forward.
St. Pauli lacks penetration, Bochum efficientNew half, same picture: St. Pauli in attack, but lacking penetration. The hosts managed nothing more than a shot that hit the post from a very tight angle by Philipp Treu (60').
And Bochum? Efficient. With the first serious attack of the second half, VfL made it 2-0. On a counterattack, Felix Passlack fed Boadu, completely free in the middle, who easily scored his second goal (66').
Final phase without major excitementThe goal finally put an end to an already low-quality game. Both teams took it easy in the closing stages, and Bochum's victory was no longer in jeopardy. After the final whistle, FC St. Pauli fans flooded the pitch anyway.
