Club World Cup live ticker: BVB wants to cash the 50 million check against Monterrey

Club World Cup live ticker: BVB wants to cash the 50 million check against Monterrey

Borussia Dortmund is competing for a place in the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup. The big stakes are high against Monterrey of Mexico.

Borussia Dortmund will play early Wednesday morning (3:00 a.m. CEST) at the Club World Cup in the USA for a place in the quarterfinals and an additional $13.125 million. Should BVB advance to the next round against CF Monterrey of Mexico, including veteran star Sergio Ramos, the Bundesliga club's prize money from the FIFA tournament would rise to well over $50 million.

The match kicks off at 9:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday evening in Atlanta. For the first time in the tournament, Dortmund will not be playing in temperatures well above 30 degrees Celsius. The stadium in Atlanta is temperate. Coach Niko Kovač therefore expects a more intense and fast-paced game than in the preliminary round, in which BVB has not yet impressed.
