DFB squad: Experience and an offensive talent: These women want to become European champions

National coach Christian Wück reveals the final secrets surrounding the women's European Championship squad. He's also relying on experience and an attacking talent for Switzerland.
Without critics Felicitas Rauch and Nicole Anyomi, but with attacking talent Cora Zicai, national coach Christian Wück and the German women's soccer team will enter the European Championship. The 52-year-old announced his 23-member squad for the tournament in Switzerland from July 2 to 27 at Europa-Park Rust.
A total of eleven players were nominated who reached the European Championship final in England three years ago. "We want to play with a mixture of joy, enthusiasm, determination, and conviction – that's what this squad represents. If we succeed in doing that, we can go very far," said Wück.
Defender Rauch (North Carolina Courage/USA) and Frankfurt striker Anyomi are absent, as expected. The two recently criticized the national coach's communication, causing a stir and a debate within the national team.
The squad includes 20-year-old striker and future Wolfsburg player Zicai (SC Freiburg), who was recently absent due to muscle problems. Talented Alara Sehitler, meanwhile, will have to wait for her European Championship debut; the 18-year-old from FC Bayern is currently only listed as a standby player – like Rauch.
Wück had already resolved the biggest question mark regarding the squad last week: Bayern star Lena Oberdorf, who has had no match practice since tearing her cruciate ligament almost a year ago, will not be going to the European Championship.
