DFB women travel to the European Championship in Switzerland without Lena Oberdorf

"She's on the right track, but the European Championships are coming too soon for her," said national coach Christian Wück regarding Lena Oberdorf. "We want to give her time to fully prepare and look forward to seeing her again in the new season." The world-class player tore her cruciate ligament almost a year ago and missed the Olympic Games in Paris as a result .
Although Oberdorf was part of the DFB women's squad for the Nations League matches last Friday against the Netherlands (4-0) and on Tuesday in Austria (6-0) and also trained with them, she only sat on the bench during the matches - as previously announced.
Wück: Oberdorf's "head is not yet clear"Wück said that after an "intensive evaluation of the training impressions of the past few days," he decided against Oberdorf's participation in the European Championship in Switzerland (July 2-27). While the midfielder has been improving her form day by day, Wück added, "we still notice that in some situations she's still very much listening to her body, to her knee – and perhaps her head isn't yet clear."
Oberdorf's club, double-winner FC Bayern Munich , had expressed skepticism from the start about whether the 23-year-old would be fit enough for the start of the European Championship. Oberdorf hasn't played a single game since her serious knee injury. Since moving from VfL Wolfsburg to Munich a year ago, she's still waiting for her debut in the Bayern jersey.
Goal gala in the last European Championship test against AustriaWück will nominate his 23-player squad for the European Championship on June 12. The team will then meet in Herzogenaurach on June 19 to prepare for the tournament. At the 2022 European Championship, the German women's team—with a strong Oberdorf team —were runners-up. They lost to hosts England in the final. After missing out on the 2024 Olympics and now missing out on the European Championship, Oberdorf can't hope for a major tournament again until 2027, when the World Cup takes place in Brazil.
In the final European Championship test in Vienna against Austria , Wück's team went on a veritable goal-scoring spree. Sydney Lohmann scored a brace (1st and 39th minutes), Lea Schüller (9th), Selina Cerci (26th), Klara Bühl (31st), and Laura Freigang (43rd) secured the 6-0 (6-0) victory for the Olympic bronze medalists from Paris before halftime. "I do think we've sparked a certain euphoria," said Wück. "Of course, we're happy to take that with us."
