DFB Women: Resignations in recent years – Between glory and resignation

Almuth Schult (2012–2022)
After 66 international appearances as a first-choice goalkeeper, Schult ended her career in 2022, both with the German national team and at club level. Her greatest achievements included European Champion in Sweden in 2013 and Olympic Champion in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Her retirement was not entirely voluntary, as Almuth Schult explained in Kicker magazine : "One or two years at the top level would have been possible – but no top club wanted to sign me anymore." Schult used her retirement to point out structural problems within the DFB, especially regarding the issue of pregnancy in professional sports.
