|The German U21 team missed out on the European Championship title, partly due to two shots hitting the crossbar in the final against England. Nevertheless, national coach Julian Nagelsmann offered high praise.
It's a bittersweet moment: The German U21 football team hadn't lost a single match for two years, and had been unbeaten 20 times in a row in qualifying, friendly, and European Championship matches. But in their last joint appearance in the European Championship final, these players lost 3-2 after extra time to England in Bratislava, partly because Mainz's Paul Nebel and Freiburg's Merlin Röhl both hit the crossbar in injury time after regular time, while Freiburg's Merlin Röhl hit the crossbar in injury time after extra time.
