According to a media report, convicted Dutch professional footballer Quincy Promes will be extradited to his home country, where the former international player will be imprisoned immediately.

Dutch professional footballer Quincy Promes, who was convicted of cocaine smuggling and a knife attack, has been extradited from the United Arab Emirates to his home country, according to a media report.

After the charter plane landed, the 33-year-old would be taken to a detention center, reported the Dutch daily newspaper "De Telegraaf." Where exactly Promes would be held was initially unclear.

The 50-time national player was sentenced to six years in prison by a court in Amsterdam last year . The court found it proven that he was involved in the smuggling of approximately 1,350 kilograms of cocaine through the port of Antwerp in January 2020. He had previously been sentenced to one and a half years in prison for grievous bodily harm. Promes had stabbed a cousin in the leg with a knife after an argument at a family celebration.

The original plan was to bring Promes back to his home country on a scheduled flight from the United Arab Emirates. However, this idea was abandoned due to security risks and the likelihood of him being photographed. Instead, a private jet was chosen, which reportedly cost taxpayers around 100,000 euros.
