Jamal Musiala undergoes successful surgery: Rehab soon

Jamal Musiala undergoes successful surgery: Rehab soon

German national soccer player Jamal Musiala underwent surgery two days after suffering a serious left leg injury at the Club World Cup in the USA. According to FC Bayern Munich, the procedure was successful. The 22-year-old attacker suffered a dislocation of his ankle and a fractured fibula in the 2-0 quarterfinal defeat against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday in Atlanta.

Musiala was flown back to Munich on Sunday, separate from the team. He is scheduled to begin his first rehabilitation sessions on Tuesday, the German record champions announced. The exact length of his absence is unclear. He will "not be available for the next few months," the club's statement stated vaguely.

"This serious injury and the long absence are a real shock for Jamal and all of us. This affects FC Bayern. Everyone knows how immensely important Jamal is for our game and what a central role he plays for our team," said sporting director Max Eberl after the injury.

Musiala injured himself in Atlanta shortly before halftime in a challenge against PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian dived for the ball and trapped the Bayern player's lower leg. Musiala's left foot was then stuck out to the side. These images alone suggested a serious injury.
