Mourning for football star Diogo Jota (†28): Goosebumps moment shortly before kick-off of the European Championship

Diogo Jota died in an accident at just 28 years old. UEFA honored the star footballer at the Women's European Championship.

On Thursday evening, the Portuguese national team will face Spain in the Women's European Football Championship in Switzerland – even before kick-off, Jota was remembered touchingly.

UEFA had already announced a minute's silence for Diogo Jota before the Portugal match. When the moment finally arrived and the stadium in Bern fell completely silent, it was a truly goosebump-inducing moment. Many Portugal fans were visibly moved. Many spectators in the stadium held up signs reading "Rest in Peace," and many fans also brought pictures of the player or his jersey into the stadium to remember Jota.

But this won't be the last minute of silence for the late star footballer. UEFA announced on Thursday: "A minute's silence will be observed at all Women's European Championship matches today and tomorrow in memory of Portuguese international and Liverpool FC striker Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva."

There was also a minute's silence at the Belgium vs. Italy match, which took place on Thursday at 6 p.m.
