Last defeat 25 years ago, then five wins in a row

The record against Portugal is quite impressive: In 19 matches, Germany has emerged victorious eleven times, drawn five times, and Portugal has won three times. Portugal's last victory dates back 25 years. At the 2000 European Championship, Portugal won 3-0 on the third matchday of the group stage, while Germany were eliminated as defending champions.

Since then, there have been five more encounters—all at major tournaments—all of which Germany won. At the 2006 and 2014 World Cups, Germany won 3-1 and 4-0, respectively; at the 2008 and 2012 European Championships, they achieved 3-2 and 1-0 victories, respectively. The last meeting also took place at a European Championship, with Germany winning 4-2 at the Allianz Arena in 2021.
