The most important thing in brief: Borussia Dortmund has taken a big step toward the round of 16 at the Club World Cup. BVB won their second group match against South Africa's serial champions Mamelodi Sundowns 4-3 (3-1) and, with four points, has at least temporarily taken the lead in Group F.
In the midday heat of Cincinnati, the Bundesliga club fell behind thanks to a goal by Lucas Ribeiro in the 11th minute. But goals from Felix Nmecha (16th minute), Serhou Guirassy (34th minute), and starting debutant Jobe Bellingham (45th minute) turned the game around in Dortmund's favor before halftime. In the second half, BVB increased the lead with an own goal from Khuliso Mudau (59th minute), before goals from Iqraam Rayners (62nd minute) and Lebo Mothiba (90th minute) made things exciting for Sundowns.
In the final group match, coach Niko Kovac's team will face HD Ulsan from South Korea again in Cincinnati on Wednesday.
Borussia Dortmund enters the second matchday of the Club World Cup as the clear favorite. The Bundesliga club will face South African club Mamelodi Sundowns FC in Cincinnati on Saturday (6:00 p.m./Sat.1 and DAZN). While BVB opened with a lucky 0-0 draw with Fluminense Rio de Janeiro, Mamelodi won 1-0 against South Korean side Ulsan HD.
BVB is already under pressure ahead of the match against the South Africans. A defeat would put coach Niko Kovac's team out of control of advancing to the round of 16. Reaching the knockout stage is Dortmund's minimum goal.
