A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Callao in Lima, Peru, on Sunday, June 15.

During the early hours of Sunday, June 15 , an earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale shook the Callao area of Lima, Peru , generating alarm among the population and causing material damage to various buildings.
According to the Peruvian media outlet RPP Noticias , the earthquake was recorded on Sunday and its epicenter was located 30 kilometers southwest of the Constitutional Province of Callao, in the department of Lima, as reported by the Geophysical Institute of Peru ( IGP ).
What happened in Peru on Sunday, June 15?The earthquake had a depth of 32 kilometers , which contributed to its intense perception in several areas of the Peruvian capital and nearby areas.
Images and videos captured by residents of Callao and Lima began circulating on social media , showing the moment of the earthquake, as well as the effects caused: cracked facades, collapsed walls, and parts of buildings and homes that collapsed due to the force of the earthquake.
Some videos also show people panicking and running out of their homes, trying to find shelter in safe areas.
According to the RPP report, the Peruvian Navy ruled out the possibility of a tsunami on the coast, determining that the characteristics of the earthquake did not meet the necessary conditions to generate such an alert .
Even so, the population was asked to remain calm and pay attention to official announcements.
So far, the National Institute of Civil Defense ( INDECI ) has not issued a detailed official report, although local media have reported injuries and considerable material damage in various areas of Callao and Lima .
