A Spanish professor throws in the towel and leaves teaching after 30 years.

Álex Torío studied Physics with the intention of dedicating himself to teaching . After much effort, he succeeded and has been a professor ever since. Now, 30 years later, he has decided to throw in the towel and quit his job . "I can't take it anymore," he laments.

The man stated on the television program "Y ahora Sonsoles" that he is disenchanted with the Spanish education system. "The standard is extremely low," he declared. In this regard, the teacher explained the reasons that led him to retire and abandon this profession.

The reasons why a Spanish teacher leaves teaching after 30 years

Álex Torío comments that the role of teachers has completely changed. "At that time, we in secondary school were truly specialists. We knew a lot about one thing and we explained it. Over time, I've had the feeling that the LOGSE (Spanish Educational Standard) has been an extension of primary education . Therefore, it's not as important whether the teacher is someone who has a deep understanding of a subject or is basically a good group leader," he clarifies.

He also points out that there are "laws and guidelines" within the education system that he doesn't understand. "Now, make-up exams are done in July instead of September so that children don't suffer with homework in the summer," he maintains. He believes that "the reality is being glossed over."

In any case, Alex wanted to make it clear that this isn't a personal problem, but rather one that affects many teachers, and he took it upon himself to gather testimonials from colleagues. "Everyone's saying, 'What are they making us do? ' 'Why are they making us all pass?' " he reveals.
