Follow the session live: the Senate seeks to reject Milei's veto of the ATN law

Just after 11:00 a.m., the Senate began a key session sponsored by the opposition, seeking to reject Javier Milei 's veto of the law establishing the automatic distribution of National Treasury Contributions (ATN).

The initiative, which had been approved with broad support in July, was vetoed by the Libertarian government on the grounds that it compromised the "zero deficit" goal.

With the majority of governors behind the bill, and a supermajority that seemed assured before the start, the Senate is preparing to deal another political defeat to the ruling party, in a week already marked by setbacks in the House of Representatives over the Emergency Pediatrics and University Financing laws.

The veto debate will be the focus of a session expected to last approximately six hours and will also include other relevant topics, such as reforms to the Penal Code, measures related to public health, and the creation of the "Sofia" rapid alert system for searching for missing persons.

The main focus of the discussion revolves around the management of the ATN (Tax-Free Tax), a fund equivalent to 1% of the federal shareable income, which until now has been distributed at the discretion of the National Executive Branch (PEN). The law promoted by the provincial leaders seeks to make this allocation automatic and with clear criteria, given the lack of response from the national government to requests for financial assistance.

Follow the debate live in the Senate chamber.
