Iran and the United States will hold the fifth round of nuclear talks in Rome.

The fifth round of talks between Iran and the United States on Tehran's nuclear program will be held in Rome on Friday , Oman, the mediator between the two sides, announced Wednesday.
"The fifth round of talks between Iran and the United States will take place in Rome this Friday, May 23 ," Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi said in X.
On April 12, the United States and Iran began important indirect talks with Oman, mediating the thorny issue of Iran's nuclear program.

The goal is to conclude a new agreement to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons , in exchange for the lifting of sanctions that paralyze its economy.
Iran denies that its nuclear activities have military ambitions.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei expressed skepticism about the outcome of the talks on Tuesday .

"We don't think they'll yield any results. We don't know what's going to happen," he declared during a speech, adding that denying Iran its right to enrich uranium is "a big mistake."
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he hopes to "reach a deal with Iran" during an appearance before the Senate in Washington.
Iran, which defends its right to civilian nuclear energy, has reiterated that maintaining uranium enrichment is "non-negotiable," while chief US negotiator Steve Witkoff called it a "red line."
