Jurists and politicians condemn the Coahuila Judiciary's stripping of VANGUARDIA

Diego del Bosque, state leader of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), stated that the injustice suffered by VANGUARDIA at the hands of the Eighth Circuit Civil Court of Coahuila reveals the existence of a judiciary subservient to the political and economic interests of a clique.
" We believe this confirms the banner we have been waving for the past few months about the urgent need for profound change in the Coahuila Judiciary," he said.

" It seems to me," he pointed out, "that today, power is hijacked by private interests, so there is no swift and expeditious justice; whoever has the influence, the connections, the connections is the one who always ends up triumphing, imposing their interests above justice."
" But we have the expectation and hope that this will gradually change starting next September 1, with a new vision and a new exercise of justice in the state," Del Bosque Villarreal explained in an interview.
He indicated that, while various actors within the so-called 4T have been "very critical of the role of the media," he considered it unacceptable that, "due to political differences or positions, a media outlet should be punished."
The sloppy prosecution of Grupo Vanguardia "became politicized, even though the judicial process is already highly flawed, and I believe this is accentuated and intensified by the fact that it involves a media outlet," the leader said.
He emphasized: "Our position will always be in favor of freedom of expression and ensuring that things are resolved effectively in accordance with the law, not according to private interests."
He demanded the intervention of President Claudia Sheinbaum, since "everything that is happening in Coahuila, where the Fourth Transformation governments have unfortunately not reached, forces us to be vigilant and to oppose censorship and legal oppression against a media outlet."

Diego del Bosque opined that the judicial branch's rigged ruling against this publishing house underscores the sense of helplessness that prevails among Coahuilans.
"And there are already many people dissatisfied with the judiciary, for example, on issues such as land invasion, double ownership of properties, and the non-recognition of deeds."
" It seems to me that the fact that this is happening to a newspaper as prestigious as VANGUARDIA speaks to the fact that no one is safe from this law of the jungle that the administration of justice in Coahuila has become... It's clear that in this case, private political interests are taking precedence," he emphasized.
“It is sad,” he continued, “that the judiciary plays such a condescending role with economic and political powers, so we will be attentive to the next episodes of this issue, which, it seems to me, is not yet over.”
" We understand that there's a political group that has governed this state for a century; among its members, there's a pact not to touch each other, which has allowed former governors to retain their privileges," he noted.
The former federal representative ruled out the possibility that "justice could come from the Executive branch," because "as long as that political elite, which feels it owns our state, continues to exist, there will be no promising future for the people of Coahuila."
IT IS A POLITICAL REVENGE
In an interview, Ricardo Mejía Berdeja, state leader of the Labor Party (PT), indicated that the legalistic attack against the newspaper is a result of the modus vivendi of those who administer justice in Coahuila.
"What we see is a penny-pinching judiciary, dedicated to seeing how it can get more mileage out of its own pocket," he denounced.

" That's why we oppose the composition of the Coahuila Judicial Branch. I even filed a constitutional challenge, as it's clear they've tampered with the local Constitution by implementing a customized electoral reform," he said.
" VANGUARDIA is now facing the consequences of pointing out these schemes seen within this corrupt power," he emphasized.
Therefore, "it is a political revenge," which is even used to get rid of the inconvenient press .
“Although I have questioned some things about VANGUARDIA, it seems to me that, by tradition and history, it has been an avant-garde newspaper, honoring its name... It is a newspaper with a long tradition, and any situation of this type is evidently an attack on freedom of expression,” stated Representative Mejía Berdeja.
“It is an attack, a fraudulent matter, so our solidarity with VANGUARDIA, the family of Mr. Armando Castilla and all the media staff,” he said.
He estimated that, in its defense, the company could still pursue some legal options, "and I hope the robbery and the plunder don't happen."
" It's not just Humberto Moreira" who's behind this legal attack; this comes from the State Government, from the Judiciary. There may be those who want to reap the benefits of troubled waters, but I wouldn't exonerate any of the current actors," he emphasized.
On social media, the legislator posted a video urging readers to go "against the corrupt political caste of the PRI and PAN."
He added: "My solidarity with the newspaper VANGUARDIA for the dispossession and attacks it is suffering at the hands of the PRI and PAN political class, the corrupt regime of the former governor, and the actions of the state's judiciary."

Ricardo Mejía stated that what we see today is a newspaper “persecuted, attacked by the government itself, which wants to take over the facilities, the newspaper.”
Like VANGUARDIA, the PT "will not bend us, they will not subdue us... They will not get away with it, there is no evil that can last forever," he warned.
SOLIDARITY OF ANTONIO ATTOLINI
Questioned about the legal tricks applied to the detriment of VANGUARDIA , the local Morena deputy, Antonio Attolini , who said he was not fully aware of the case, lamented the actions of the Collegiate Court in Civil Matters of the Eighth Circuit of Coahuila.
“There is at least one thing certain within what VANGUARDIA publishes, in light of any particular fact: the Judiciary in Coahuila requires a profound transformation.”
"The judicial system in Coahuila lacks a court that hears, resolves, and delivers justice, and in reality, what it does is serve a legalistic, crude, and sometimes even incomplete version of what the law itself says," he criticized.
“ This specific case exposes a structural gravity: the justice system, the Judiciary in Coahuila, continues to be captured by factional interests that serve the interests of individuals more than the general interest.
“ The cause of freedom of expression,” he said, “must always be accompanied by the principle that there must be freedom after expression, if nothing else is a statement of the letter...”
In a tone of solidarity, the Morena legislator expressed his support: "Let VANGUARDIA count on the fact that all of us who love freedom will always have them as an ally, and let them count me as one of them."

Regarding the State Congress's possible stance on this injustice, "we will have to wait and see," given that the current legislature is in recess.
“ We'll be back in two weeks, and I think it's an important case that we'll need to address, including in the Human Rights Commission, which I coordinate, as well as in the Access to Information Commission, which is headed by the president of the Morena Parliamentary Group, Representative Delia Hernández.”
" Subject to consultation with her on a work agenda, I believe she would be very interested in resuming this and reporting on something as important as this lawsuit by a media outlet like VANGUARDIA against the entrenched power structures," he asserted.
He called on Governor Manolo Jiménez to address the publishing house's case as a priority, since "the right to freedom of expression is worth defending."
This right, " even if only one person exercises it, benefits everyone from it: violating the freedom of expression of one person is violating the freedom of expression of all," Attolini Murra emphasized.
ATTEMPT TO LEGAL CERTAINTY
For jurist Diana Isabel Hernández Aguilar, this state abuse contains "many elements that threaten the security and legal certainty of Coahuilense citizens."
An example of this is the fact that the process "deals with a debt on a statement that was not certified by the banking institution, especially in order to have certainty about the debt."
On the other hand, it seems there was no further evidence than that, because, in fact, in commercial matters it is not required to prove the destination or how the loan was used.
It is assumed that it is only considered true with the credit title, which should be sufficient to prove the debt, he explained.
The Saltillo lawyer, academic, and businesswoman added that "if that title (debt certification) is dubious, I believe that's where they took advantage of the opportunity to interpret the law, but against VANGUARDIA, not in favor."

He considered that the case should still be challenged in the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) for violation or interpretation of the law; there is a good chance of winning through this appeal, he stated.
