Money laundering hit in Palma with a police officer, a biker gang leader, and his lawyer arrested.
Two years of investigations by the police and the Civil Guard were necessary to deal a severe blow to a drug money laundering scheme in Palma this week.
The magnitude of the operation is clearly indicated by the identities of some of the dozen detainees: Inspector Faustino Nogales, a former narcotics chief; Gonzalo Márquez, a prestigious lawyer; and Stefan Milojevic, head of the United Tribuns motorcycle gang , which is at odds with the Hell's Angels. All those arrested were taken to the cells of the Balearic Islands Headquarters and the Civil Guard Command, where they are being held in isolation so they cannot communicate with each other. They are accused, depending on the case, of money laundering, drug trafficking, threats, membership in a criminal gang, and bribery.
The police and the Civil Guard decided to consolidate two investigations they were conducting in parallel when they saw that the case was growing and reaching international proportions . The thesis of those in charge of the case is that the United Tribunes' drug trafficking profits had been invested abroad. The lawyer allegedly provided the design of the strategy to launder the drug money.
The operation began in the early hours of last Monday morning . News came out in dribs and drabs—the gag order is strictly enforced—but it soon became known that Internal Affairs officers had arrested Inspector Nogales.
Ales, known to the media for holding press conferences regarding several operations on the island, was the head of the Narcotics Group II in the Balearic Islands. Yesterday, his home was searched for several hours, involving agents from the Technical Inspection Operational Group (GOIT), who specialize in locating the most secret hiding places.
Nogales's attitude upon seeing journalists from the newspaper Última Hora at his door was extremely aggressive, and he hurled harsh insults at them. He did the same with his colleagues who were about to conduct the search, calling them "sons of bitches. I've been working in this shit all my life, and you treat me like this ."
The second important element arrested is lawyer Gonzalo Márquez. Of European noble origin "with roots in the Grimaldi dynasty," according to his law firm's website profile. He was born in Madrid, studied at the Complutense University, and founded GM Business Law Firm in 2012, a firm based at number 8 Paseo de Palma, which has also been searched. He presents himself as a specialist in the prevention of money laundering, as well as in commercial law.
This lawyer defended another of the main suspects in this operation, Stefan Milojevic, leader of the United Tribuns in Mallorca, in a trial for drug trafficking, money laundering, and membership in a criminal organization. Five leaders of this motorcycle gang, a rival to the Hell's Angels, were sentenced in the Palma Court to 15 years in prison for drug trafficking . The leader did not go to jail after accepting a one-and-a-half-year sentence, but it was suspended due to his lack of a criminal record.
Mixed martial arts (MMA) expert Stefan Milojevic, according to Diario de Mallorca, took over the leadership of the Mallorca chapter of the aforementioned motorcycle gang in 2028. Founded in Germany in 2004, they followed in the footsteps of their bitter enemies, the "Hell's Angels," and established their headquarters on Trasimé Street in Playa de Palma. It was the territory of their eternal rivals, and they wanted to occupy the space left by the latter after Operation Casablanca in 2013.
The son of Real Mallorca footballer Goran Milojevic possessed all the qualities to become the leader. As a youngster, he had tried, unsuccessfully, to follow in the footsteps of his father, Goran Milojevic , a footballer who excelled at the club in the 1990s.
