National alert: 800,000 unvaccinated children in Mexico due to shortages

In an urgent appeal to health authorities, Representative Rubén Moreira revealed that 800,000 Mexican children have not received their basic vaccinations due to a widespread shortage that particularly affects the country's poorest regions.

  • Missing vaccines: Measles, polio, hepatitis B and rotavirus
  • Critical states: Chiapas (125,000 cases), Guerrero (98,000), Oaxaca (87,000)
  • Delay time: Some children have gone up to 2 years without immunization
  • Health risk: Possible resurgence of eradicated diseases
  • 1. Budget cuts: 32% less for children's health care vs. 2023
  • 2. Logistical problems: Cold chain failures
  • 3. Corruption: Diversion of resources in 5 states
  • 4. Centralization: 70% of vaccines are distributed in Mexico City

"We're playing with fire. Every day these children aren't vaccinated is a risk of preventable epidemics," said Dr. Luis Rivera, epidemiologist at INSP.

  • 18% increase in whooping cough cases
  • First measles outbreak in 5 years (12 confirmed cases)
  • Childhood hospitalizations** +25% due to preventable diseases
  • SSA: Acknowledges "temporary delays" but promises to regularize supply
  • UN Mexico: Offers technical support and vaccine donation
  • NGOs : Independent vaccination campaigns begin
  • Check vaccination card
  • Go to health centers for an appointment
  • Report shortages on the official platform
  • Do not postpone pending doses
