Pope Francis appoints José Francisco González González as Archbishop of Tuxtla Gutiérrez

MEXICO CITY.— On Wednesday, the Mexican Episcopal Conference (CEM) announced that Pope Francis has named José Francisco González González as Archbishop of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas .
This afternoon, the Apostolic Nunciature communicated through the General Secretariat of the Mexican Episcopal Conference that His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Bishop José Francisco González González, until now Bishop of Campeche , as Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Tuxtla Gutíerrez .
The appointment was published in L'Osservatore Romano on Wednesday, February 26, at noon, Rome time, Italy .
“We join in joy and prayer with the pilgrim Church in the Archdiocese of Tuxtla Gutiérrez and we wish Msgr. José Francisco a fruitful performance in his new episcopal mission that the Lord has entrusted to him,” concludes the statement signed by Ramón Castro Castro, bishop of Cuernavaca and president of the CEM; and by Héctor M. Pérez Villarreal, auxiliary bishop of Mexico, as secretary general of the organization.

Curriculum vitae
Monsignor José Francisco González González was born in Yahualica, Jalisco, currently the Diocese of San Juan de los Lagos, on March 17, 1966. He is the eighth child in the family.
He completed the first two years of primary school at the parish school of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza, in the city of Guadalajara. He completed the rest of his basic studies at Urban School No. 189 in the Esperanza neighborhood.
He entered the Seminary in the San Martín Section on September 7, 1978. After three years, he moved to the Minor Seminary for the study of Humanities (1981-1984). He attended the introductory course in Tapalpa, Jalisco (1985-1986).
He studied philosophy and theology at the Seminary of Guadalajara. He was ordained a deacon on December 24, 1994 by Cardinal Juan Sandoval Íñiguez. He was ordained a priest on June 4, 1995.
Sent to Rome (1995-2000), as a student at the Mexican College, he obtained a Licentiate in Canon Law at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross and a Licentiate in Biblical Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
