Pumas: What would Aaron Ramsey's salary be in Liga MX?

Pumas: What would Aaron Ramsey's salary be in Liga MX?

The UNAM Pumas have made an unexpected splash in the Mexican soccer transfer market with the potential signing of Aaron Ramsey, a renowned Welsh midfielder with extensive experience in European soccer.

With such a significant signing, the big question mark revolves around the salary the former Arsenal and Juventus player will receive. Although Mexican clubs typically offer good salaries, competing with UK standards isn't easy. However, Ramsey 's case appears to be an exception.

According to data from the Salary Sport website, during his time with Cardiff City—his last team—Ramsey earned an annual income of just over 32 million Mexican pesos . This translates to around 650,000 pesos a week, making him the second-highest-paid player at the club, behind only Calum Chambers.

The curious thing is that if that same salary were replicated at Pumas , the Welshman wouldn't even be among the top ten highest-earning players on the team. In fact, according to the same site, the tenth highest-paid player on the university team earns around 38 million pesos annually, while the first would be Ignacio Pussetto with an estimated salary of 98 million.

Although official figures have not been released, everything indicates that the Auriazul board has managed to secure a high-profile signing at a reasonable price. For coach Efraín Juárez, Ramsey will not only be a key reinforcement on the field, but also a leadership figure following the departure of Lisandro Magallán.

Why is Aaron Ramsey said to be “cursed”?

During his most distinguished period as a footballer, particularly between 2008 and 2019 when he played for Premier League club Arsenal , Aaron Ramsey was a midfielder with remarkable goalscoring ability.

Over time, a coincidence emerged that gave rise to an urban legend: every time Ramsey scored, a renowned public figure died shortly afterward. This pattern gave rise to the so-called "Ramsey curse."

It all began in 2009 , when the Welshman scored his first goal for the national team. Hours later, Spanish journalist Andrés Montes died. Since then, a series of deaths following his goals have fueled the belief in this strange "curse."

Among the figures who died shortly after Ramsey scored were prominent figures such as Steve Jobs, Paul Walker, Robin Williams, David Bowie, Alan Rickman , and Whitney Houston, among others. The idea gained traction on social media, where each new goal by the Welshman sparked jokes, speculation, and theories, but it has recently faded.
