Relocation of underground lines in the Abastos-Independencia Highway System area is progressing.

Relocation of underground lines in the Abastos-Independencia Highway System area is progressing.

The relocation of underground lines in the area where the Abastos-Independencia Road System will be built is 50 to 60 percent complete, and it is estimated that within the next three weeks, this process will be completed and conditions will be in place for the formal start of the civil works, namely the excavation for the vehicular underpass.

The Secretary of Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Mobility (SIDUM), Miguel Ángel Algara, announced that as part of the induced works that have been underway for the past two weeks, at some point it will be necessary to cut the median strip of Independencia Boulevard to open it up as a traffic lane.

This is because to relocate the collector, which has a diameter of 60 inches and is on the south side of the boulevard, A larger excavation will have to be made compared to those carried out so far for the replacement of the drinking water and drainage lines.

This maneuver is intended to minimize traffic disruption, which is limited to two lanes in both directions due to the roadworks.

Miguel Ángel Algara also said that all of this underground infrastructure, including a telecommunications line and a high-voltage power line, will be confined beneath the side lanes of the Independencia, and once the relocation is complete, those lanes will be patched to reopen them to traffic and allow for the excavation process in the central section, where the grade will be located.

According to the planned schedule, in about three weeks the state and municipal authorities will be giving the formal start of the works. , which will also begin the excavation process to create the underpass, said the head of SIDUM.

As previously reported, the relocation of underground facilities includes, on the northern stretch of Independencia Boulevard, two drainage lines with HDPE pipe, 10 and 18 inches in diameter and lengths of 630 and 280 meters, as well as a stormwater line of the same material with a 30-inch diameter, extending 670 meters.

In the southern section, a 10-inch diameter HDPE drainage line, a 4-inch PVC hydraulic pipe potable water line, and a 60-inch HDPE sanitary collector will be relocated, over a length of 505 meters.

This, in addition to the telecommunications and high-voltage power lines.

Road operations remain unchanged

For his part, Luis Morales, Director of Roads and Urban Mobility, reported that the deployment of personnel for the induced works remains unchanged, an operation being led by 15 agents from this department.

He said the adjustments made to Constitución Boulevard at the intersection with Montevideo Street have yielded the expected results, as traffic flow is smoother.

He insisted that citizens travel along the Constitución as this is the alternate route from west to east and vice versa, This is to prevent the Independencia, where the work is being carried out, from becoming saturated.

Regarding the passenger buses that pass through the construction site, he noted that efforts are being made to ensure that passengers do not have to walk long distances to board, and that transport operators have been asked to cooperate by respecting the exits and exits.
