The Government officially called the Legislative Assembly for Saturday at 9 p.m.

The Government officially convened the Legislative Assembly on Saturday , where, starting at 9 p.m., the President will give the opening speech of the ordinary sessions in Congress. The measure, which had been announced days ago, was published in the Official Gazette through decree 140/2025.
" 9 p.m. on March 1st is set for the opening of the regular sessions of the National Congress for the current year ," stated the document signed by Javier Milei and the Chief of Staff, Guillermo Francos.
The ordinary session period runs from the first day of March to November 30, however, they will not be the first of this year: there were already extraordinary sessions in January and February , in which the clean record projects, the reiteration law and the suspension of the PASO, among others, were discussed.
Days before the opening of the ordinary sessions of 2025, which will take place in the lower house, the Government has determined a series of restrictions for reporters and journalists. By order of the Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei , photographers will not be able to access the floor of the building and accredited media representatives will be deprived of the boxes they historically occupied in Legislative Assemblies.
As reported by LA NACION , in light of this new scenario, journalists will be placed in “two boxes” in the first gallery of the building that are usually assigned to people invited by the government, while a press officer from the House of Representatives promised to “put in plugs.” In turn, Manuel Adorni , presidential spokesman, spoke about this and said that he “still had no more details” about how the press coverage of March 1 will be.
This is a decision that has no precedents in democratic governments and that, after Karina Milei's decision, was accepted by Victoria Villarruel, president of the Senate, and Martín Menem, president of the House of Representatives . Both are in charge of the logistical organization of the opening speech of the ordinary sessions before the members of Congress.
The modification generated repudiation in the Circle of Parliamentary Journalists (CPP) and the association of graphic reporters (Argra) , who issued a statement in protest to Villarruel and Menem: “The most regrettable thing is that the authorities of both Chambers have taken this measure without any need, since the accredited press has historically occupied these boxes without any incident being recorded that justifies a decision of this nature.”
On the other hand, Kirchnerist senators, who also questioned the restrictions on the press, announced that they will not be present at the Legislative Assembly. According to the head of the Union for the Fatherland bloc in the Upper House, José Mayans , the decision arose in rejection of the President's policies and as a consequence of the $LIBRA scandal.
"In a block meeting we unanimously decided not to attend in rejection of the President's statements in the United States, when he said that the State was worse than the mafia," Mayans said in reference to Milei's statements at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
